Hoover Defends Successfully

Ryan Hoover defended his dissertation at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, in English 358. Ryan’s dissertation is titled “Rhetorical Agency, Social Structures, and Power Relations in the National Science Foundation’s Grant Application Process.” Ryan’s committee includes Dr. Amy Koerber (chair), Dr. Ken Baake, and Dr. Sean Zdenek.

Hughes Defends

Lori Hughes successfully defended her dissertation on March 23rd. Her tltle is “Tutoring Technical Documents in the Writing Center: implications for tutor training and practices.” and her committee is Ken Baake (chair), Fred Kemp, and Rebecca Rickly.

Garrison Defends

Kevin Garrison successfully defended his dissertation on March 23rd. His tltle is “TECHNOLOGY STUDIES AND TECHNICAL COMMUNICATION: SUBSTANTIVE RHETORIC REVISITED.” and his committee is Rich Rice (chair), Fred Kemp, and Joyce Carter.

D’Angelo Defends

Congratulations are in order for Barbara D’Angelo, who passed her dissertation defense yesterday. Barbara’s dissertation is titled “Outcomes and Assessment for Undergraduate Technical Communication Programs,” and her committee was Rebecca Rickly (chair), Miles Kimball, Susan Lang, and Ed White (outside member from the University of Arizona).

Barbara is the first student from the 4-year-old online PhD program in Technical Communication and Rhetoric to defend.
